On March 21, 2025, Kabarak University further strengthened its international presence by embarking on a significant academic and industry partnership mission in China. The delegation, led by Professor Henry K. Kiplangat, Vice-Chancellor of Kabarak University, aimed to foster deeper collaborations and enhance global networking opportunities for the institution.
The visit saw productive discussions with officials from a Chinese institution, where Professor Kiplangat met with Gu Chunhua, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and President of the host university, as well as Vice President Fu Yang. They were also joined by Pan Junhao, Technical Director for the Middle East and Africa at Jiangsu GoodWe Technology Co., Ltd. The primary focus of the discussions was the establishment of a tripartite partnership between Kabarak University, the host institution, and Jiangsu GoodWe Technology. This partnership intends to drive joint research, student exchanges, and technological innovation across various academic fields.
Professor Kiplangat expressed his sincere appreciation for the reception his delegation received, acknowledging the significance of fostering global engagement in higher education. He remarked, “We are grateful for the warm reception and the opportunity to explore avenues for meaningful collaborations that can benefit both our institutions and the broader academic community.” During the meeting, he also extended an invitation to the Chinese partners to visit Kenya, aiming to continue the dialogue on future institutional synergies.
The partnership discussions align with broader geopolitical initiatives, notably the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, which has emphasized enhancing academic exchanges and collaborations between African universities and Chinese institutions. President Gu Chunhua reinforced his institution’s commitment to strengthening ties with African universities, marking this collaboration as a critical step in this direction.
Alongside the institutional leaders, several notable individuals from the Chinese university also participated in the discussions, including Zeng Fenyu, Director of the International Exchange Department; Xu Qunjie, Director of the Development and Planning Department; Zhu Jun, Deputy Director of the Personnel Department; and Pan Hua, Executive Vice Dean of the School of Economics and Management. Their involvement reflects the high-level nature of the partnership talks and the shared commitment to academic excellence and global cooperation.
The proposed tripartite collaboration will focus on several key areas, such as academic exchanges, joint research initiatives, and technological innovation. It is expected to provide students and faculty at Kabarak University with enhanced opportunities for international exposure and collaboration in cutting-edge fields.
This visit further aligns with Kabarak University’s long-term strategy to deepen its global relationships, ensuring that it remains a key player in Africa’s educational landscape. As Professor Kiplangat concluded, “These partnerships are vital to our growth, providing our students with the global exposure necessary for the challenges of the 21st century.”
